CHILDCARE - ST LUCIA HOTELS
|
|
We are now offering three hotels that offer Kids Clubs on their premises free to residents of the hotels. We have personally visited all these hotels and tested a couple of the childcare facilities with our own family. The Windjammer Landing The Kids Club here is from 4 to 12 years of age. For those children under 4 years, babysitting can be arranged either once at the hotel or pre-booked through ourselves for a fee of US$7 per hour per child. The Club opens at 10 a.m. and closes at 4.00 p.m. Lunch can be arranged for the children at the Kids Club for an extra EC$30 per meal (plus taxes and service charge). They also offer extended hours from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. to enable parents to spend romantic evenings dining at one of their fine restaurants (parents dining outside of the resort will be subject to a charge of US$5.00 per hour). During the evening sessions, they have special theme nights such as pyjama night, disco night, pirate night, movie and popcorn night and games night. This seemed a very busy Club when we visited with a large number of activities going on including drawing, colouring, balloon blowing and general play. Some of the activities currently being offered are a visit to the Mini Zoo (the children will have an opportunity to see some of St. Lucia's native animals and birds), fun trips to Pigeon Island\Historical Tour land mark, Jeep Safari Tour (Anse La Raye water fall), nature walks around hotel, T-Shirt designing and tie-dying, cultural experience: limbo dancing, reggae dancing, story telling & patois lessons, Arts & crafts / drawing competition. There was also a large outside play area for them to run off some steam. Although only for 4 years and above, babysitting can be arranged with the sitter being with the child in the Kids Club. With regard to diving (the dive centre being in the resort), the Kid's Club times allow you to go to out on the afternoon's 1 tank dive which leaves around 2.00 p.m. to arrive back at the dive centre for around 4.00 p.m. If you are wanting to go out on the two tank morning dives, you have to be at the dive centre for 8.30 a.m. As the Kids Club does not open until 10.00 a.m., babysitting will have to be arranged in advance to cover the gap before the Club opens (this can either be arranged once in resort or pre-booked through ourselves). The Almond Morgan Bay The Kids Club here caters for children from 0-12 years. There are three sections within the childcare centre - 0-1.99 years, 2-4.99 years and 5-12 years. They open at 9.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and then from 1.30 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. (10.00 p.m. for 5-12 years). Again, this seemed a busy and well-organised Club with a good number of children present. Organised activities include story time, video time, nursery rhymes, jewelry making, puppet craft, flower art, sand art, t-shirt painting, indoor free play and outdoor play in Mini Park, pool activities, movie matinee, outdoor activities including badminton, beach cricket, volleyball, pool activities, junior chef, movie star make over, board games, Nintendo computer, movie time after 6pm. There was a large play area in front of the Kids Club with climbing frames, slides etc. With regard to diving, there is no dive centre based in this resort. Our chosen dive centre for this resort would be Frogs Diving based in Rodney Bay. For the two tank morning dives, pick ups would leave the resort at 8.15 a.m. and return for 2.45 p.m. This would require arranging a babysitter for the time before the Kids Club opens and over the lunch hour (12.30 to 1.30 p.m.). The afternoon one tank dives leave the centre at 2.00 p.m. (to leave hotel by 1.45 p.m.) and return to the dive centre at around 5.00 p.m., so babysitter may need to be arranged for an extra 1/2 hour at the end of the session depending on the child's age (1-4.99 years closes at 5.00 p.m.). Babysitting would have to be arranged on arrival at the hotel. Jalousie Plantation The Kids Club here is from 5 to 12 years and open from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. The activities are both fun and educational combining Rain forest environment and Marine Biology with story telling, dance classes and craft making. There is a dive centre based at the hotel, the Jalousie Scuba Experience. |
